IMG_empire079rsm I’m an Artist/House DJ living in New York City.  While attending school at UNC Greensboro in the mid 90’s, I was introduced to a style of music      that absolutely changed my life.  My friend at the time, and wife now, invited me to a house party at the Flamingo.  It was there that Robbie and  Scott Hardkiss gave me my first lesson in the ways of house.  I remember the floor was so packed the decks were skipping!  Afterwards, we headed  over to her friends’ house where I met my soon to be mentor Jason Cooper (aka DJ dimension, at the time). Needless to say, I was hooked that very  night.

I grew up in the 80’s blasting everything being played on NYC’s Z100 – dancing in my room to Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Sharon S, Lisa  Lisa – I think you see where I’m going with this.  In high school I became a classic rock nut. In college I was listening to jazz: Art Blakey, John  Coltrane, Herbie Hancock… when I found house, I was drawn to its extremely instrumental qualities, always a live horn, flute, percussion or vocal  laid atop a driving beat.  Those live elements, combined with the amazing energy created on the dance floor, is what keeps me coming back!

As far as my art is concerned…  I’ve been making my “luminary creations” as long as I’ve been spinning.  I’ve been an artist my entire life- my lights are my favorite works.  I paint glass or polycarbonates using various original templates and finishes, and mount the glass as a flat panel or the poly as tubes.  All are originally designed from recycled materials and I have yet to make one that wasn’t coveted.  I’m a big garbage picker. I pull glass out of ugly entertainment centers and carry home old futons for the wood. The finished pieces cast a beautiful glow and are perfect for a living area, lounge or bar/nightclub.  I love doing installations and combining pieces; if you see something you’d like to modify, I would be happy to customize something for your space. Thankfully my wife Ashley Moore is not only smart and beautiful, but also a professionally trained commercial photographer.  Ashley’s photographs are a proper representation of the work.  Enjoy and please let me know what you think!
